The basic whitening process involves bleaching of the teeth whether by gel or by laser. The process has the following steps – first, the teeth should be evaluated by a dentist who will check for sensitivity, cavities, gum disease, ulcers, and other possible problems. Once all that gets the okay, the whitening of teeth is done with the help of a solution containing carbamide peroxide. The dentist will more often than not use a high percentage of this compound, higher than you’d find in an over-the-counter product; they will also know how to protect your teeth by using fluoride to balance the treatment.
How Does a Tooth Whitening Tray Work?
The process of whitening of the teeth involves applying a gel-like solution to surface of the teeth when a professional bleaching method is used, and a whitening powder when the laser method is used. In both cases the gums and surrounding area are protected by using a tooth whitening tray so the teeth can be treated without the solution irritating the surrounding areas. So the tooth whitening tray is a very convenient way to whiten your teeth, and it costs a fraction of what treatment at the dentist would cost. But when you use the tooth whitening tray, keep the following points in mind:
1. In order to prevent making your teeth sensitive to hot and cold foods and liquids following the treatment, start brushing your teeth with an oxygenated toothpaste at least two to three weeks before you plan to have your teeth whitened — this will strengthen your teeth to minimize any reaction 2. In order to obtain the best and brightest results, the tray will need to fit as snugly as possible without hurting the gums, so carefully follow the molding instructions included with the kit. 3. Choose a home-based kit that uses a carbamide peroxide base and not glycerine based, which harms the teeth. Ensure that the formula you buy has a minimum 21 percent concentration of carbamide peroxide. 4. Post application of the whitening gel, use only an oxygenated mouthwash so as not to disturb the work of the whitening formula — an alcohol based mouthwash will neutralize the effects of the whitening process
A tooth whitening tray may also used by the dentist when performing a professional bleaching of teeth using gel. The function of the tooth whitening tray remains the same, however — to protect the gums and surrounding area from the effects of the gel applied on the teeth.

Dental science has come a long way. Gone are the days where a visit to a dentist meant a visit to torture chamber. Today, this visit can be as comfortable and pleasant, if I may say so, as any other doctor’s visit. Most of the procedures today are painless and very fast compared to what it was just a decade ago. This is because the R&D in this field has moved with phenomenal speed. There are excellent pain killers today, easy and fast techniques and as a result much less costly than ever, though still expensive by normal standards.
What Are Permanent Dentures? Why Are These Needed?
By definition, permanent dentures are false teeth that are fixed in the gum permanently in place of an absent tooth or a gap. Simply put, it is a false tooth attached permanently to the jaw to cover up for a flaw. Usually, permanent dentures, as the name itself indicates, are a permanent solution to covering the gap between the teeth.
The permanent dentures are usually prescribed for people who have removed their crown(s) or suffer from loose gums as a result of which teeth have moved and created gaps. Often, due to these gaps the person in question will not be able to chew properly and hence suffer from indigestion and other digestion related troubles. Besides the health point of view, the lateral movement of the teeth actually makes the person look unattractive. This is the main reason why people seek a dentist for permanent dentures, rather than the discomfort the gaps create.
If the permanent dentures are not applied in time, teeth will continue to move and after sometime become loose and fall off. If this happens when you are in your 70s it might be okay (though today elder people are also very conscious about the way they look), but if this happens when you are 40-ish then this can become a major nightmare. Hence, it is wise to visit a dentist the moment you have the lightest inclination or doubt that your teeth are moving, or if you have had any teeth removed in the past without a replacement.
The best way to avoid the use of permanent dentures is to act in time. If you visit the doctor at the very first signs of trouble, then you could end up using partial dentures which in turn, can prevent further movement of teeth and save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

As we grow older we have to take a closer look and pay even more attention to our health then we did before because all the bad habits, poor diet and vitamin deficiency will catch up with you; for example, yellowing teeth or stained from years of drinking coffee or smoking, painful, swollen gums and loose teeth roots show signs of vitamin deficiency or poor diet. Senior dental care can be as easy or as hard as you make it because it does require extra care but when done on a daily basis you will be able to enjoy a bright smile and your favorite dishes without even realizing their age in the process. Here are a few common issues senior dental care is facing: darkened teeth, dry mouth, root decay, which is caused by poor oral hygiene, gum disease, tooth loss and thrush, which are caused by drugs that you may be taking for an existing disease. Each of the above senior dental care issues need to be addressed from case to case depending on the age and also on the present state of health, as many senior dental problems occur due to another medical condition.
Dentures
The most common senior dental care however is replacing of your own teeth and getting dentures; this is a long, painful and very expensive procedure, which will be on going for years even after your dentures are ready as the gums keep shrinking and so the dentures will need constant adjustment to fit appropriately. It is very important you have dental care insurance, as a senior dental care plan may be very difficult to get and extremely expensive however, if you don’t have any it will still be helpful as you will be able to avail of some discounts and partial coverage depending on the work done. Daily oral hygiene is extremely important, as what you practice while you are young will affect you when you grow older and as an elderly you must never neglect your health, as it can provoke fatal diseases.
Brush your teeth twice everyday, rinse your mouth after every meal and floss at least once a day. Regular dentist check ups are also recommended even if you have healthy teeth, as at times the dentist can see and prevent a disease before it occurs. If you have dentures, ensure you remove and clean them on a daily basis as well.
